HUD MIP Refund Tracing

Part of what I do is help people find out if they are due any funds from HUD for their MIP refund. Sometimes people sell their home and move and never get their MIP refund. These funds are available for up to 6 years to the mortgagor or their heir(s). You do not need to be a mortgage client of mine for this service.

Anyone asking you to pay any fees up front more than about $25 for research is probably not legit. I charge NO FEES up front. All of my fees come from the processing of the refund – period. You never pay me until your refund is processed.

A distributive share is a dividend of the MMI fund operated by HUD/FHA, and may be payable when the FHA insurance is terminated, depending on the age of the mortgage and other eligibility conditions. Because this occurs over a long period of time, mortgagors may not be aware they are entitled to a distributive share.

The One-Time Mortgage Insurance Premium (OTMP) Refund Program was in effect from September 1, 1983 to June 28, 1991. It required the collection of the mortgage insurance payment in full at the time the mortgage was insured. Mortgagees must notify all mortgagors, who have mortgage insurance under this program, of their possible eligibility for a refund both at the time of loan origination and at insurance termination.

HUD attempts to advise each unpaid mortgagor of their entitlement for a period of two years after the mortgage terminates. After this period of time, any unclaimed distributive share or premium refund information may be made available under the provisions of the FOIA.
